The Partnership Symposium: Conquering Breast Cancer

Description: Combining the resources of the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and the Greater NYC Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, this groundbreaking event at the 92nd Street Y provided a forum for experts to talk about the latest developments in breast cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment.  I gave a talk, "Screening, Self-Examining, and Surviving," and spoke briefly about my experience as a doctor in a cancer hospital and cancer survivor.  I also signed books and chatted with readers.

Women Conquering Cancer: A Celebration of National Cancer Survivors Day

Description: This community event, organized by the terrific group Women Conquering Cancer, was part of an annual wordwide celebration of people living with and beyond cancer.  In the keynote address, I shared insights from my personal experience as a cancer doctor and survivor.  After the talk, I signed books and traded stories with seminar participants.

Lymphoma: A Survivor's Perspective

Description: The annual North American Educational Forum on Lymphoma, sponsored by the Lymphoma Research Foundation, gives people with lymphoma and their loved ones key information about treatment, support, and research.  In the keynote address, I used my dual perspective as a survivor and a doctor to give coping strategies to patients, families, and loved ones.  I also made suggestions to doctors on how to better care for individuals with lymphoma.  Afterwards, I chatted with readers and signed books; all proceeds were donated to the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
